#Beltane,
or May Day, signifies the beginning of the light half of the year.
Traditionally, bonfires were the center of the celebration, and it
marked the beginning of the grazing season for livestock. The name
Beltane comes from the old Celtic word for fire - teine - and
corresponds to one of the oldest Celtic gods, Belenus, who was
associated with pastoral life.
